Thank you Billy for the nice comment, but honestly I won't believe anything beyond what I can see with my own eyes.

 

Also cause I'm a bit of a B, I definitely would not listen to a random chick at a con. Reeks of false information.

 

Though tbh, I assumed he wouldn't look like either of them. If he did, well, at least I didn't wait four years like the last boy I waited out for.

Trust me Gunter, I'm not holding my breath on ANY of the info she gave me but still.... she did seem sincere with the names she was throwing around as well as some of the info she had. Maybe it had just enuff credibility to sound good, I dunno. Either way it was nice to hear ANY info about Eiji, whether or not it was true. At least we all know there are lots of people talking about him and that's a good thing IMO.

I think it is good people are talkin', but it is hard to see why they wouldn't seeing he is making the first anime-styled male doll. I've just dealt with the gossipy types that like to act like they know too much cause it satisfies them in some way I don't understand. It is why I sometimes hate cons, or at least the social side. XD If the information was true then cool, but I just find it hard to believe a random. oTL;;

 

Either way, I'm as patient as I can be. I just wanna know if he can be my husbando or not! QQ

honest opinion. I think his face look off.. like the one far right looks like his face is very flat =/ good I am not aiming to get the head.

I'm pretty excited even if he still needs to be worked on for the simple fact that he has BOY EYES! For some of the guys I've been wanting to do, there looks like I'd only need to do minor eye modding. That's huge compared to what would have to be done to a DD head for the same character. *Looks up one of the DD boys she wants to do* Of course that doesn't cover everyone... Kitamura looks like he would be an 04 head.

 

I'm badly getting the itch to find out what will be possible with Eiji's sculpt, and if I'll like him as he comes. It is also good to know where in the process he is so it is easier to judge an approximately when he will be released.

It looks like 4 different heads to me? But it coyld be cause my phone made the picture kinda blurry.

 

My only critique is that the heads look rather thin? Meaning they may not look as good on the Macho body i want *pouts* but i could be wrong since the angle isn't perfect... I love the eye and chin shape though

His face proportionally looks bloody strange. I'm unsure if it is the angle, or what, but just like the bridge of his nose, the position on his eyes....it looks seriously weird to me. Profile wise he appears incredibly flat. Either way, I dare say he doesn't look at all attractive to me. ><;; I'm an all angles kinda person. If the mold only pulls off one angle then the mold is useless to me. XD So, here hoping modifications save it.

Frankly I could say the same about Mirai. I don't like the fact that he doesn't have a guy's jaw and looks like a variation of Mirai's head. Guys have broader chins, not pointy dainty ones. I want to see the head hiding behind the post... Most heads look weird without a faceup (especially Kos Mos!) but that doesn't fix the shape or the missing jaw.

I probably shouldn't have been surprised because MIRAI is flat. XD So of course so would the guy be.

 

And TBH, to me, that's how you see the true best of the mold. If the mold can look good without any face-up, without a single line or color then that's probably an AMAZING mold. With BJDs that's how I always judged. You didn't judge with a face-up, you judge without. It is also the easiest way to see the truest form, because you can manipulate it to appear one way, but no matter what that's the REAL way the mold looks. Is too bad you can't find DD blank often as that idea applies to them equally.

 

As of right now, I'm not going to be giving Danny a cent other then for the body later one.

This is OT, but I do try to get pics of the blanks when I have them but so far KosMos is the only limited that I have that I didn't want to keep the default. Personally I'd LOVE to do that for as many of the limiteds I can get a hold of, but I feel like that's shooting for the stars. I've been working on the defaults when I have them blank too.

 

The bad thing is that it kinda looks like I might have to plan on getting a 2nd Eiji at some point to do that as well. I hate being a perfectionist.

I agree with Gunter, I intentionally look to see a sculpt blank because then you really know what it looks like, and this is just flat.... literally.

As much as a face can be manipulated by a good artist, this isn't fixable with a face up alone.

The lack of jaw is disappointing. As suspected he looks like the 07 with smaller eyes and a slightly longer skinnier face.

Some things don't translate from 2D to 3D and this is one of them. In doll form he needs more defined masculine features. A stronger nose, and broader jaw were necessary to bring this out in a doll.

I don't think its bad, and its not the final product yet. Using 3d printing is producing the flatness of the faces I'm guessing, but it seems to me it serves as a uniqueness that his dolls have vs Volks. At first I was unsure about the flatness but it may be refreshing to own a doll of a different style that is much more anime like and blurring 2d/3d.

 

I'm pretty much in on Eiji, and if I don't like something I will modify it. Thats the other fun part of doll ownership, real customization!

My boyfriend says this:

If he made four of those, he needs to scrap all four. This looks like a girl, he could cutt sandwiches with that chin, hes way too triangular looking.

 

I think there's just a lack of creativity going on here, as hes got some similarities to Mirai and the 07 head and to be fair hes treading in territory that hasn't been played with. I also think danny made the sort of body he would probably like to have but not the sort of face? so to speak. Like I just feel hes put more effort into the body thus far probably. Maybe hes just stuck or frustrated on how to do the head properly and that's why he hasn't revealed him yet, or maybe his taste in anime dudes, is just different.

 

So perhaps he should have had given us a bit more input on him and SHOWN US some of his drafting, so we could tell him our thoughts before hand similar to the body process. But instead he hides it this long, and we all have no idea how it's going to come out. I'll save my final judgement for sure when I can see a closer image of him of coarse, I really hope these are somethings he can fix.

 

I would like to save my final conclusions on him we all know that any sculpt can be fixed up a bit with the right makeup, hair and eyes. However it is as you all said, you can tell a good sculpt by just looking at the shape. I love his eye shape. I just think a lot of him needs tweaking... his head just looks too 'squished' and angular. Mirai / Kizuna definately has a bit of that same 'style' as when you compare to the DD the DD head is 'rounder / more chibi/ anime like' where as the Smart doll heads in general so far seem to be more angular / egg shaped.

 

But that's probably just his style, which is cool not my taste but good on him for trying atleast, no one else has so we should give him credit where it is due. Even though i'm not a big Danny Choo fan in general but I don't think his styles that bad, thought Mirai was cute and I feel a part of that is largely due to her makeup, so i'm hoping Eiji can still be ok here. We'll all just have to wait to see his final product. At the very least, Eiji should pave the way for more anime guy dolls in the future right? And for sure Danny didn't just sculpt a guy body and spend nearly a year on it just to make Eiji... hes already talked about other characters that could be possible for the future, so lets look at the positives here.

oh also just wanted to add that I think a bunch of us might be a bit nitpicky as well cause we've been waiting so long lol which is understandably so. We all might be singing a different tune upon his official reveal.

You guys... this head needs to look like Eiji first and foremost.

 

 

What I see so far looks like Eiji to me. Maybe he'll make other head molds that will please more people in the future.

yeah that's what i'm thinking : ] also keep in mind, practice makes perfect so...the more head's he'll come out with the better he'll get at designing ect.. It's not too bad, Especially sense this is the first guy ever! With no predecessor before him lol. Does look like Eiji a bit.

It was definitely exciting to finally snag a sneak peak of Eiji's head sculpt through these WIP sculpts. As Danny mentioned when he posted this picture that these are not final and Eiji's head sculpt is still going through tweaks here & there. I'm happy to see that the face does look masculine to me. Like Jezrah said he is indeed looking closer & closer to how Eiji's character designs look.

 

I was hoping the final product would be available for purchase at Anime Expo, but since he is still working on the head sculpt looks like there will be more waiting. Which is fine since funds for him & a tan girl are not currently available yet haha. I do hope he brings Eiji (complete or not) as a display to look at alongside his tan girl who he did confirm would be on display.

 

Once Eiji is readily available I look forward to seeing what people do with him through customization. I'm not nearly that crafty , but I really enjoy seeing the creations of others.

Some really strong reactions here! No wonder Danny was being a bit shy in revealing him.

To me it's definitely looking like a male head, more along the lines of a mid-90's bishonen with the long nose and pointy narrow chin. The features are pretty frontal and flat, but that's consistent with Mirai. I think he'd look more modern and handsome, and more on model for Eiji, if his nose and mouth were higher. And his forehead should be more angular and sloped, and less bulbous, if he's going for modern standards of beauty.

this was really bugging me! So I did a fast paintover. It's definitely the long nose and round forehead that bother me most.

I actually agree with you Jadepixel. I do hope those modifications happen cause damn does he need it!

 

People are generally going to have strong emotions, especially when the previous projects had us apart of every step and yet this one we were totally left in the dark. I would have loved to see the 3D images of Eiji personally. >: We could have made comments and helped him through, and thus you would have avoiding the reactions that this is getting instead. I realize the goal is Eiji, but Eiji's design is attractive. The 3D ver. as of right now is definitely not. :P

 

I kinda don't think he was confident in the head he was making so he didn't show it. He's had Mirai's design for far, far longer I think so more confidence. Is hard to say either way.

 

Also add in that you have a lot of people SUPER EXCITED, and the emotions just kinda go haywire. XD

I'm not sure I like these heads, but sometimes you really need a face-up to know. In my opinion, most dolls look weird/awful without face-ups, so I don't expect them to look good before they're painted. I... feel like I have doubts about the skill of the person who sculpted these heads, though.
