Danny Choo Smart Doll Boy [NSFW]

 

Faceup on eyes is based on Danny's v2 faceup & pic of eyes is from Danny's post. The moment I saw this my heart jumped. The glasses are wrong for Eiji's default, but close. The squished babyface would NOT work with glasses! I'll quit typing so I can post this. *SQUEEEEE!*

I think he looks great like this, I would definitely send it to Danny!

That's what I was really hoping and aiming for when I was thinking about the various requests. As I stated, I have a lot of 'little boy' faces, and if I wanted more of that, I wouldn't have pestered Danny about boy eyes. Because frankly it's more than just the eyes that matter. Sure the body is a big part of the overall look, but with the wrong head (including the pouty lips) Eiji would just look like a freakshow. Eiji is supposed to be in high school, so I think the slightly longer face helps shows a not entirely grown face, but the babyface just does not work for his character. (I know I over-think things like this. >.<)

 

If anyone is wondering about the 'slit eye' version, I was attempting to do a version of Kyoya from the top of my head. MANY anime boys have eyes like that and my #1 reason for being on a rampage about vinyl boy head sculpts.

Any wig from the examples cited earlier would be fine. As long as it resembles eiji. And as for the lips, try to tastefully follow Danny's original mouth while trying to make it less duckface-y.

I totally agree with you on that. The first thing that came to my mind when watching the newer face images was that (although he improved a lot!) had a little bit of a baby face. Making his face just that little bit longer like you did gives him a much better look. More like Eiji but also a face that can look more manly with the right face-up.

 

Really great work with that edit you made!

I simply couldn't resist this after seeing those glasses.

 

 

Rei was not my intention when doing the face edits, it just happened after the fact.

In all seriousness though, I'm just beaming over the compliment. I have such a weird set of specific 'see & make' talents that I've struggled my whole life to know what to do with. I've just been playing around doing what I normally do on my own but rarely have people 'get' what I can really do. So thank you very, very much.

 

 

Plus there's the fact that Rei is in my top 5 fave anime characters. Such freaking adorable megane that just cracks me up. I love his Japanese voice actor, and can't wait to hear J. Michael Tatum's version. (Rei with Kyoya's voice actor... I don't think my heart will survive!)

I think the mouth wider is perfect. A face up can make him smiley or serious, or pouty. My over all concern though is the sculpt itself.

 

SK you made a pretty neutral edit, and I think that's perfect. A face up can be used to change his expression, which was never my concern. He no longer looks baby-ish with a weird elongated face. No face-up was going to fix that.

Ok, you like Rei, Kyoya and Tiger... I like you! ;D You need to put all these 'Eiji edits' somewhere for me to ogle... I mean... for everyone to see! XD

The mouth... ug! So aggravating. With my experiance with boy mouths they need shading just like the girls do, but using tans with a bit if a yellow/orange tint to them instead of a pinkish like girls. Trying to show stuff like that off on a flat image for me at least is stupidly hard. The shine on the 3D mesh doen't help it any. I did manage a bit of a tone change in his lips so you can get a bit of a guess what difference it makes. Lucas has blushed lips and a very hard line to define his mouth. Kiyoteru (& #2) has the same but it's more subtle (Faceup by by Anouc.) While Tamayuki has fully blushed lips but no line. His 'Sassy' stint shows that it isn't so severely saturated. And then there is the factor that BJD faceup artists do lips entirely differently. Personally I think the wider lips will work for a variety of faceups, I just don't know how to illustrate it at the moment.

 

I promise I'll photoshop an actual wig next.

As is, I think Eiji could make a pretty darn good Howl.

I'm actually the one who added Howl to the poll back then, , but now that you mentioned Howl I really want to see Eiji in a longer wig.

I probably don't want to know why, and I don't even want to think about the drama that will ensue should that ever happen. I've been trying to work out in my head how to do facial hair on a vinyl doll for a while, now. And of course, Sohi is insisting on her own minmoth...

OMG YAAAASSS. Is it warped I think he sounds more fun to have around than Gil? I guess which one ends up happening depends on what heads come out in the future.

 

However, I still refuse to do Tarvek. I do NOT need a clothes horse like him in my house. Oh god, he and Miku would get in SUCH fights over fashion, and he'd utterly drain my wallet over Dollheart, Volks, and Cheerydoll clothes all the time. Not allowing this to happen!

Ya I'd like to see the side profile. He's definitely looking better but hopefully the bridge of the nose isn't flat.

Very cool... but it seems like this 3D artist doesn't know how to sculpt lips :/ Danny says making the mouth wider makes the lips look more duck-like, but a good sculptor should be able to reshape the lips into something that works well.

Yeah, the mouth is . . . tolerable, but not ideal. I kind of get the feeling this sculptor forgets that lips have to curve around the underlying teeth, and therefore you have to emulate that to get it to look right. ^^;

 

Still, the new head is MUCH better than the first, and actually is looking quite a bit like SisterKyoya's concept. ^_^ This head, I can definitely use. Not sure if it'd be the Doctor or not, but might be able to make Gil, Tarvek, 2nd movie Hiccup, or Wren from the webcomic White Noise.

Definitely getting one now. And since I want him in tan, that'll give me more time to save!

I think that's an official rendition. If not, it'd be kind of rude of him to call it rough and knock the pale face XD
