Danny Choo Smart Doll Boy [NSFW]

If you look at Azone's line of 1/3 girls, most of them have very flat faces as well -- I think it's a particular style for translating a 2D anime style into a 3D doll. And, personally, I think it works very well when it's combined with painted-on eyes. The flatness of Azone dolls bothers me MUCH less than the flatness of Mirai, and it's because most Azones have painted-on eyes: it's flat eyes on a flat face, so nothing is that jarring. Once you put in animetic eyes, that style suddenly stops working, because now you've got this very flat, 2D face and these very vibrant, 3D eyes, and the contrast between the two is not a positive thing. And I think Danny's sculptor is essentially sculpting Azone-style heads and just punching eye holes into the sculpt, instead of really considering how the mold needs to change to accommodate the animetic eyes.

I kinda agree, some of the old azone50 sculpt was quite flat, but it was based on anime design, so when it get painted it almost accurate to the original source, sames like DD they was sculpted nicely and less flat, but becaus of that sometimes they miss the original design, and doesnt look like the original anime character anymore, I think thats the case of danny case here, it misses the point to be a 3d object, but hey recently azone50 release has less flat face, maybe danny will follow that step hha

 

This is exactly it! This is why Volks misses sometimes, and why Smartdolls don't work for me.

I'm just hoping the boy will be ok from the front, there won't be any profile pics happening haha.

Kizuna and Mirai both look cute from the front, but then they fall flat...literally

I personally really like it. My only gripe is that the superior lip isn't " bumped up " like for regular humans... And heck, like most anime characters. But that's obviously some intense nitpicking so forget about it. I would get him anyways. He definitely isn't as flat as the girls, he has A LOT more volume on his face, especially the lips and nose. That makes me hope that Danny will release new heads for the girls since they don't fit the current look of Eiji enough to make them look like they're from the same line/series. Anyone else see what i mean?

With those new pictures I kind of feel like the baby face is back. His face is (in my opinion) now too wide compared to how "long" it is. But it seems like it is mostly on the top of his head. (Kind of hard to explain >.<) He looks pretty boy-ish to me again.

Its looks familiar, hmmmn Kos-mos! With smaller eye hole hha, yeah I kinda agree, the face was shorter, he doesnt want to makes the nose bridge higher, so he use the same mold as the first one, and cut theface to make the nose higher hha

I like it. I would definitely buy him now.

The corners of his mouth need to come back just a bit in profile; that'd get rid of the remaining duck lips quite a bit. But still a LONG way better than mold 1!

I can see where the face is a little wider than long, but this is soooooo much better. I like the smaller eyes and chin. I love that he actually has shape in his face. The first one was FLAT.

So ya my only gripe I think is that it's a little wider than it should be.

So far though I'm going for it.

I like this version a lot better. Generally, I'm not sure how I feel about the Smart Dolls, because their faces look a bit lifeless to me and Eiji's first face was particularly lifeless and bland looking. It contrasted badly with the more realistic body.

 

In my opinion, this one would be perfect if the corners of the lips were just a little bit wider, maybe give him a slight smile. Also, I think perhaps there should be a small crease on his eyelids to give the face more depth.

I still wish his forehead was less rounded and more flat in front, and want more definition around the eyes and brow/orbit area. He'd look more manly and mature that way. But, that would allow less flexibility for faceup options so I can see why you'd leave it ambiguous. Not committing to a defined facial feature or any hard angles is what makes these faces seem flat and a bit lifeless imho.

Still, this is leagues better than head 1.0 and I'll be tempted to get one not only for his bod

I would definitely try to get him just for the body lol I like boyish faces so I can always keep the head and make it work, plus face ups is what make the face for me and I can make stronger eyebrows, a smile etc with a face up. If I wanted a mature, more manly sculpt I would just get a BJD from Iplehouse XD and if they release the body in white skin I can use it for a floating head I have.

I've wanted a boy for so LONG and now it's HAPPENING!

That face is just a no for me. I dunno. Maybe once I see him all done up I'll feel different but as of right now...

I saw that... still don't like the way the belly is sculpted, and his lower back is really odd. I'd say go back to the classics, David has a really nice lower back and manly hands too ^_^

personally 60K for a blank doll when I full set is 60K I would not buy him. I would wait for Enji and have all the extras and sell his head later.

If you just want a male doll then its best to wait for the final version ,

If your a clothing maker then get him now and your clothing line store will be linked to The Eiji smart doll store page so customers will know where to get your clothing for Eiji .

it seams a lot of money for a blank doll but its a investment if you plan to make and sell clothing

by buying now you get in on the ground floor and to make money when he is released .

being the 1st male vinyl doll there will not be much clothing available , so its a good opportunity for clothing makers

Maybe Danny's selling the developer version to make back some of the money spent molding and casting parts that won't be used in the final version. Wasn't it like $10,000 to cast just a head in vinyl?

indeed now the page is up I do get why they are selling him like that. but how he worded it was really bad, not enough info and not a lot of warning ether.

 

I still only want the blank body so it will look like buying a full doll that I cant afford at all to then try sell the extra items I don't want (that's pretty much everything other then the body since my character wont need the clothing ect..)

 

I hope in the future he will sell blank body's only and not at such a steep price.

Now I know what I dislike about Eiji. It's his forehead. I don't like it because it's so straight up and flat like. Unlike Mirai, her forehead curves backward. Mirai's head takes the round shape of a skull. I just think his head looks odd on the body.

I finally got the thumbs up from Danny to post pics of the Smart Doll Boy!! I haven't wanted to be so silent and it has been killing me that I haven't been able to share what's been going on. But now I can!! Obviously this is the Dev version of Eiji (I have the original head too) so there will be some minor changes between Ralph's body and the final version. Over the next couple of months or so I'm going to be designing clothes, once my brain gets over the shock of finally having this body in my hands! (It only arrived yesterday.)

 

I WILL be doing my standard 360 degree pic set of Eiji's blank head (the original, not the remake) with the eye holes still intact, without the eyeholes, and with whatever faceup I decide to do for him. I'll be frank and say it will take a little thinking. Other than removing the eye holes I've decided not to mod it so it can be used as a more accurate point of reference. One thing that did surprise me was how small his ears are. How they were sculpted makes sense in a 3D environment but to me really illustrates the sculptor's lack of knowledge of human anatomy. Actually seeing it in person I can say the forehead is definitely too big, but only because the rest of the face is squished down lower than it should be. From the top of his head to the top of his eyes is about 1/2 the height of the head, and if I remember correctly, that's like baby head proportions. Adult proportions should be more 1/3 for the forehead and 2/3 for the face if I'm remembering right.

 

I'll be taking LOADS more pics soon, especially without the ill-fitted clothes. I have MDD, Obitsu 45cm, DDS, DD, & DDdy bodies, all the standard Volks heads except the 08 & 09 (most have girl faceups), and all 3 sizes of Volks hands to do comparison photos with. Let me know what you want me take pics of! Side note: Ralph's shoes were bought from Alice Collections and went on EASILY!! The inner length is stated as 8.5cm x 3.5cm but I'll measure the actual foot for an accurate number (thank goodness that BJD shoes often have the inner size stated!) I'll be trying them on soon with socks, but I don't expect the fit to change. I've had more trouble putting on Naiomi & Dakota's boots than I did Ralph's shoes. Plus, they look like manly feet.

 

What you can do to help: Danny has already asked me what hand poses I'd want for Eiji and he wants your input too! The one thing he did mention was that the pointing or peace hands look girly (and because of that it sounded like he wasn't too keen on doing them for Eiji.) So, suggestions welcome and needed! Pics would be great too just for the sake of clarification if needed.

 

I still keep having my moments of 'OMG Smart Doll Boy!!' OH! I almost forgot! How does his height compare to DD girls? In my humble opinion... Total boyfriend material!!

As for hand poses, I'd definitely ask for 'thumbs up/down' and fist hands. I love those kind of hands.

the SmD boy does look lovely Kyoya. i must admit my first reaction was "Other people seem to get nice things but i dont..." but I am not well right no so i am in full emo mode XD so sorry about that.

 

on the hand side. i would think maybe a pointing hand would be nice. i can imagine a cute pic of the SmD with his pointing hand lifting the chin of their love interest ( being i will use this for one of my OC couples its what comes to mind hehe)

 

other than that i think just remake the female hands he has now for male then the more intricate designs that he will make for SmD girls can be worked on.

 

thinking of the wider collecters maybe some "Yaoi" hand might be intresteing ( by that i mean extra large hands)
