I really hope to make an Ivory boy. I hope that becomes an option. And that you can choose colors. I prefer the milk skintone of the girls versus the one for Eiji.

 

I'm really not a big fan of most male heads. They are too "utilitarian." I want something cute like the female heads. I grew up with the anime boys having just as large eyes as the girls.

 

I also prefer male bodies to female ones. Not a big fan of how the anime male bodies are again a bit "utilitarian" whereas for the girls you get sexy bodies with different boob options. Some people say they prefer their bodies to be less detailed, but others prefer more detail. I certainly wouldn't mind more detail down there!

What do you mean? The milk tone is the same for boys and girls. 'Ivory' is milk too - the only smartdoll colours at the moment are milk, tea and cocoa. Unless you're saying you hope there's a white-skin option in future, or that you want to get Ivory and turn her into a boy.

edit: I know ipad photos with the sun blazing down from the window arent the greatest, but my Kaito (eiji) got to meet a Mirai at a recent meet; it was my first time seeing him side-by-side with another smartdoll and I noticed zero colour difference whatsoever. I dont see why there would be, its the exact same vinyl mix. (note he only looks shorter than Mirai here cos he's stooping slightly, he's actually just a teensy bit taller than her)

 

The original prototype of Eiji had bigger eyes and...he honestly just looked really damn creepy. Him with big eyes may have worked on a smaller body but on his it was bizarre and bug-like. Even my Eiji's eyes look bigger than they should because he's using Volks eyes with bigger pupils and they make his mouth look too small in comparison, which is why I'm getting him the blue Eiji eyes ASAP. Eiji isn't supposed to be a young boy, he's meant to be a teenager, so he looks typical for a teenage anime boy. He looks like he walked out of almost any anime starring teenage boys currently popular with women so I'm not sure what excactly isnt anime enough about it. If you're after a younger boy though, I have high hopes for Volks' DDS Boy and I'm hoping they make a standard model for one.

These customs are ddh07 hybrids! They're also using Eiji eyes.

 

From those photos at least, the hyrbid works pretty well. The skin colour seems close enough to me, or at least it does in photos.

 

The DD neckhole is apparently a bit bigger than the smartdoll neck...thing, so you need to make that thicker, by putting some tubing on it or even just wrapping tape around it a few times so the DD head isnt too wobbly.

WOW Those DDH07 Hybrids are so dang impressive!! The eyes are brilliant.

Such a great happy smile. ; u ;" Too bad my guy has to be tan/tea color, or else I'd seriously consider it.. especially since I want one of my girls to have an Eiji head and I'd rather everyone have different head sculpts if possible. Dollce are apparently quite good - I know at least one person here has used one of their blue wigs instead of DD Chihaya's default blue wig which stained her (gj volks) and it didnt stain at all. I've never used their site, I was just planning to drop into the Akiba store, but hopefully they ship internationally.

 

Anyway、with brows:

(maybe should wait till they finish it but it's kind of cool to see these progress shots too. It shows how much potential the sculpt has I think. I love his default faceup as is for Kaito but if I ever get another Eiji, hmmm...)

 

Does anyone know or have a guess as to what size eyes he's wearing in this pic? I'm getting an Eiji soon and want to get eyes like these, but I have no idea what size it would be, especially because I've never had an SD or resin before or have dealt with eyes under 22mm ^^;

Unfortunately I can't say about the custom head for sure, but it *looks* like they are pretty close to the defaults, which have an 8mm iris (8mm diameter). Now, the default eyes are actually something like 22 or 24mm across (scroll down to the end of this post http://puchi-photography.tumblr.com/post/148224528469/22mm-eyes-in-smartdoll-eiji-head to see how they match up to 22mm Ronronshukas) but the printed part for the iris is just much smaller than with the Ronronshuka eyes, or your standard animetic eyes in general.

Now, I *think* the eyes on the custom are not animetics, but rather standard BJD eyes, for which sellers often give the eye diameter and the iris diameter separately. Eiji's eye sockets are about 16mm in their longest dimension, so that would put us at something like a 18mm or 17mm eye with a 9 to 7mm diameter iris.

I have a 17mm pair with 8mm iris for my Eiji in the mail and can post photos when it arrives if that helps anyone ^_^

That's really helpful info, thanks so much! Yup, I was guessing that they were more standard BJD eyes, which I'm inexperienced in ^^; It would be a great help if you can post photos when those eyes arrive! ^^

I think you miiight be able to go as low as 16mm without the edge of the eyes showing, but personally I wouldn't risk it unless you had another doll you could use the 16mms on. 15mm or lower, I'm fairly certain, would simply not work.

No, thanks so much for the pics and info! Looks pretty good on him! If I got my Eiji eyes that size, I would try to adjust them a bit higher so some white shows beneath the iris, I wonder if that'd still work? Just worried as to if the eyes would look okay if I adjusted them higher.

But I tested moving the eye up so there is about 0.5mm of white visible, and it still works--there's no gap between the white of the eye and the corners of the eye hole, and the iris looks fine. Moving it much higher is a bit hard because these are high dome eyes, but with lower dome eyes you should be fine. With these eyes the pupils look weird, but that's because they're snake (or cat) type pupils so I think ordinary ones'd look fine.
