Danny Choo Smart Doll Boy [NSFW]

Aquilla's edit is as simple as removing the paint from the lip corners once you get him, or painting him without the lip marks. I wouldn't worry too much about getting the official version to include this edit. We still haven't seen the "grumpy" face-up or the second head sculpt yet ^^

I really do think that there is a lot of possibility for this sculpt, especially now that we know other versions are in the works. It drives me nuts that Danny could have saved everyone so much headache if he would have let us see the 3D render of the WIP sculpts instead of just saying "Here it is!" Things like this could be pointed out before the vinyl version was made. #PetPeeve

 

I do like that he's already stated that the blank heads will be sold, but I still don't know if that will be upon Eiji's release or at some point later. Makes life easier for modders.

 

Boy faceups definitely take a different kind of thinking than girl faceups. Frankly I'm not surprised that the first one turned out the way it did. I guess I didn't worry about it because I was expecting to wipe it off and do my own version anyway.

As I'm personally not really keen on Eiji's current wigs, I was searching for better ones to suggest it to Danny. But before I'll send anything to him, I would like to ask you guys what you think. Maybe I'm just heading in wrong direction.

Eiji's fringe is separated on the forehead and therefore doesn't get into his eyes so much. And his hair is a bit protruding. This is what I was looking for in the wigs.

OK. It's a long and slightly off topic story, but you did ask, soooo...5 years ago I took a break from the hobby due to personal frustrations with the hobby itself and the community. I ended up making a post on my personal blog (hosted privately, not even on figure.fm) about why I was quitting. I hadn't planned to do it but I ended up making the post because my blog was quite popular back then and people kept asking me why I wasn't posting anymore. It was too much to answer everyone individually so I addressed it in it's own post.

 

I don't have that blog active anymore so I can't remember exactly what I said, but my bullet pointed list among several other things (many of which were worse, ) did include the fact that the rising number of Danny Choo's fans who blindly idolized everything he did was frustrating to me. I mean people would comment on my figure.fm posts that my dolls were creepy, weird and way too expensive, but then when Danny started getting into dolls and posting pictures of his, everyone loved them, they were amazing and they all wanted to buy them. In the post I also mentioned how I felt all the attention had made him seem more full of himself.

 

I'm older and wiser now and I know not everyone who likes Danny Choo puts him on a pedestal like that, but back then it was frustrating for me to get bashed but him to be loved when it was all about the same thing. And at the end of the day, I wasn't really flaming or hating on Danny, I just put it as my opinion, in a brief bullet pointed list, not a wave of curse filled abuse. I put it on my own personal blog and it was aimed at my bjd/dd based audience most of which didn't even know who Danny Choo was at the time!

 

Anyway one way or another I guess he got wind of my post and he didn't like it. My figure.fm account I can only assume was banned. My login just would not work one day and I could not reset my password. I made a new login and posted about it on the help pages and that was deleted too. I tried contacting him about it on twitter but his page to this day stills displays "You are blocked from following @dannychoo and viewing @dannychoo's Tweets." when I try to view it and based on the fact I never got a reply to my email I'm guessing the same thing happened there. I took the hint in the end and stopped trying to contact him.

 

I don't care much these days about stuff like that, people can do what they want. I've grown up a lot in 5 years and stuff like that doesn't bother me anymore but back then for whatever reason it did, hey, I'm only human after all I was barely in my 20's and like most fresh 20-somethings I was an idiot.

 

For what it's worth I think Danny has come a long way in that time too and although up until now I wasn't personally interested in the Smart Doll line, I think he has done really well for himself and good on him for having the guts to go out and make a go of his business and his vision.

I can understand how you feel about this. I'm the same way with MANY things. I'm sure that that I often might come across as a 'blind fangirl' (especially in this thread) but the truth is that Danny has gained my respect and in a big way. It takes a lot more to earn my respect than it does my trust, and I don't trust easily. Before the Smart Doll boy project started I was more like Danny who?

 

I was barely in my 20's and like most fresh 20-somethings I was an idiot.

I think most of us can painfully attest to this. I know I can.

I never followed the girl smart dolls so I don't know what it was like back then but reading through this post, the way he has treated the project so openly and accepting of criticism and suggestions is really admirable.

 

I know it's not realistic to apply this to everything, but I think a lot of other companies, especially start ups would do well to be so accommodating and open with their customers. He's won me round thats for sure, I just hope my past actions haven't lost me the change of having a handsome chunk of vinyl man!!!

Please don't try to act innocent and pretend it was merely " non offensive bullets on your thoughts" or that is was not aimed at danny and his fan base where many discovered DD's.

The best thing you can do is buy a smart doll when the time comes if you really would like to show support for what Danny is doing.

I Don't like to get into drama intentionally, but I can't sit back on this one. I used to read your blog as many others did who were new to the hobby, and I remember a lot of your rant post. It was very rude and offensive not just to Danny but also to his fans,gay people, and other doll collectors. Please don't try to act innocent and pretend it was merely " non offensive bullets on your thoughts" or that is was not aimed at danny and his fan base where many discovered DD's.

 

I am glad you are less arrogant and have grown up now, and I hope that trend continues for you, I hold no grudge, I don't know you, but I still remember that post and how nasty it was. The best thing you can do is buy a smart doll when the time comes if you really would like to show support for what Danny is doing.

 

There's always inevitably drama in hobbies like this and a lot of it can be simply because of how easy it is to be misinterpreted online. It is much easier to express our opinions in person in conversation rather than trying to address something as a blanket statement online. In my opionin I was voicing my opions as I had been asked about them. A lot of people replied to the post and none of them were flamey in nature so I think a lot of it is just down to who read it and how they interpreted it. f people did take offence to it, they chose not to say so.

 

You are welcome to your own opinion of how harsh it was, I accept that and I don't want to argue, but I just want to state clearly to anyone reading this that I have absolute no issues with gay people, I never have done. I grew up with a gay cousin, who was very close to being disowned by his homophobic father when he came out and it caused a ripple effect of negativity across a large portion of our family so I know how disastrous homophobia can be.

 

I would never hurt someone that way. My moan back then was not about gay people in general, it was about the countless people who made overly stereotypical and poorly represented 'gay' dolls. I think that poor and tactless representation is just as harmful to the lgbt community as it is to depict something stereotypical racist or similar.

 

You can ask anyone and they will tell you I will admit to my mistakes, I will apologise when I am wrong and I will stand being called many things but being called out as homophobic I will not accept as it is simply untrue.

 

As already said numerous times, I do intend to show my support for Danny by buying this doll if I am able to.

I really love those boy wigs you found Mysha! Especially how that fur one was styled. Most of the time fur wigs look very unkempt, but whoever finished that magnificent coif was a pro at shnazziness.

I'm happy to see others are willing to talk like adults but I hope any other comment below mine will be on topic. If this needs more to be spoken about maybe pm or make a post in the off topic section.

 

 

The stair of the hobby is a good thing to talk about so it may be a nice post to make a separate thing for. I hope this wont go over the top at all so I will thank you for being civil about this side topic that poped in.

 

 

On topic I really want to see some photos of the heads blank with are not posed just plain front and side it will help for constructive critisisum to see a blank like that. I also like the wigs you posted hope it helps for Enji. he wears a hat so maybe some photos of him with a hat would help so maybe suggest that too.

I was just stating some of the topics you wrote offensively about. Nowhere did I write that I thought you were a homophobic, so calm down.

People making their dolls gay, or flaming, outrageously gay is their personal choice.

This does not sit right with me. You are entitled to your opinion on things, just as I am entitled to mine. But this is more about your behavior towards others and why you got banned/blocked.

 

Trust me, there is no way anyone could misinterpret that post for what it was, hateful. I agree with Error-Chan. I really don't know what has been going on in people's personal lives recently, but the negativity in this thread has really caught me off guard. This is not how I'm used to our community as a whole reacting. This hobby is supposed to be FUN. The last couple of days it has felt like anything but fun. I've been reduced to tears more than once and I've just felt drained. It makes it very difficult for me to know how to respond most of the time.

 

I understand that things with Eiji need to be changed and adjusted, but I'm tired of just hearing what's horribly wrong with the entire project. If anything ad DD collectors we know is how much can be changed once the sculpts reach the hands of the modders. What about the good things? What DD heads might work for the body sculpt? Is anyone even partially thinking about making Eiji into the Free! boys? What are the future possibilities? If he were blond, what hair would you choose? What eyes do you think would look awesome? Even with no regard for the sculpt, what characters would people find that this body would work for? As is, I think Eiji could make a pretty darn good Howl.

 

I'm still a little on pins and needles waiting to hear anything more about the buffer version. THAT would be the ideal body in my opinion for characters like Tiger, not the slender version.

As is, I think Eiji could make a pretty darn good Howl.

I'm actually the one who added Howl to the poll back then, , but now that you mentioned Howl I really want to see Eiji in a longer wig.

I think the sculpt looks pretty good! Has a nice generic anime face which people can mod if they want. Anyway I think a lot of people are mostly interested in the body and have other heads in mind that they'll be using if this doesn't turn out the way they want.

So I feel like I'm a little late to the party but

I might be in the less-vocal minority but I think Eiji is looking freaking awesome. Yeah his face is stylised in a kinda-pretty-boy way, and may not be to everyone's aesthetic preferences but I'm just so excited! ( > W < )

 

Anyone know what size he is? Is he like SD17 or something... I have to find clothes and I have no idea, where to start as I don't do the big-boy-doll thing, so the sizes/terms are all new to me. o/////o

While not the best sayin', if you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen.

 

I'mma sit in my little fake bubble hoping that somehow Danny gets the rights from Konami to make Solid Snake and he doesn't butcher him in the process. I am pretty sure he would, but hey, I can live in a fake world. I got no use for the body because I don't want a bishie-extraordinaire, so no DD head for me, and I don't think modding is gonna fix the length of the face.

To me, he did at least *nail* the body. . . and that's the part of my main guy project(s) that's been stressing me, so I'm really glad about that!

 

I may not care much for this particular head, but there's apparently a couple other possible molds already, potential for more in the future, and worse comes to worse I can always either make my own or get a resin one.

 

So for me, I'm watching the current development with an interested eye, but primarily hoping to hear when the body's gonna be available by itself.

I can see a better improvement on the nose. Lips I can't really tell yet. Still look a little ducky? It's so hard to tell unless it's in 3D.

I am very glad he improved the nose! The nose finally "starts" between the eyes. Looks much better in my opinion. Of course we still have to see in person but I think Danny is getting there

 

Looking forward to the second mold! And it starts to feel like that I really need Eiji XD

The lips are improved from the girls. This is exactly what I wanted!!! It's like he took my art style and put it in 3d! Now only his faceup will tell if he's what I'll get or not. But either way I could just mod it. I hope SD gets more popular in Japan so that we can start seeing customizers like cototono and BonboneauCat try their hands at them.
