Danny Choo Smart Doll Boy [NSFW]

From the responses that Danny got on the poll he had about the type of sculpt, I think the higher (highest?) voted for were Sebastian (Black Butler) & the guys from FREE!, both animes that I love but... *takes a breath* that doesn't mean I want all of my boys to look like a distant relative of Excalibur from Soul Eater because I'm kinda freaking tired of there being such a severely limited scope of guy heads available especially when the Smart Doll guy has a body that at least looks male.

 

Ahem. Excuse me for that. The only one of my boys that I have, or have planned, that does't have a pointy chin is Ralph. Sure I find him cute but most likely because it is more of a baby face than a girly face.

 

You know what I want? Michelangelo's David, in vinyl with an anime slant. That's what I want.

 

When all there is amounts to a sea of baby faces it gets boring. I love the DD, very much but the sameness can drive me a bit batty. Sometimes I wonder if that is why we customize so much, to make our DD not look like cookie cutter collections.

 

Perhaps the underlying problem is I keep thinking about this:

 

 

 

This was the 2nd time I have ever 3D sculpted a head, let alone any other kind of organic sculpting. The first time was right before this when it started to turn out like a cat man. (Please excuse the weird eyes and derpy lips, I was still trying to learn Mudbox.) I am well aware that it isn't anime style and it was never intended to be. But it illustrates my frustration of having a visual database in my head of physical characteristics based on many of the different races around the world. Its a side affect of my time spent writing stories. I think a LOT about Greek/Roman mythology and was obviously on my mind when I did this. Some days I just want to scream because the DD type dolls have so much potential, and I at least have some talent. Yet despite Danny's "anyone can do anything if they try hard enough" mentality, it isn't possible for everyone to do what he's doing no matter how much talent they have. For me I even have to be careful of what light bulbs I spend too much time under or I get hives. There is so much I want to do with all these ideas bursting out of my head all the time, but from what I'm able to access it almost feels like it doesn't matter.

 

For years I've thought about how to make the Ouran High School Host Club cast into dolls, even before I knew about DD. I know I could do it too if I had the right materials and you can be sure that they would be pretty spot on too. Even as I'm typing this my mind is furiously tweaking the head meshes that are generating in my mind. And there are so many awesome anime guy head sculpts that would be awesome to do! Recently I've been finding it amusing thinking about an anime style Yakuza guy head, often seemingly perceived as 'rugged' Japanese features.

 

So yeah it's hard waiting to see what Eiji's sculpt is going to look like, but being pretty sure we'll be handed another bishi. I just feel like I'm looking forward to being disappointed.

These are my examples of what I would love a male head sculpt to be like. These are all figures, so they're already "3D".

 

 

I think what makes DDH-07 head so good as a male is the nose and eyes. I think when the bridge of nose is longer, it makes the sculpt look more like a male. For me, it's all in the eyes, nose and jaw. The jawline should be wider than DDs, the bridge of nose should be longer and the eyes smaller.

 

I have a feeling I'll be disappointed in Eiji's head sculpt and then I'll be stuck waiting for Volks to get on board with male DDs or have to turn a 07 head into a male with Eiji's body.

^^^^I like how the orange/red headed guy in the middle looks, that's what I'm hoping for. I don't see the point in finally getting an anime style guy and have him look like Greek sculpture or a regular resin BJD guy ^___^; I really hope Smdoll boy looks like an anime character >.

I agree with Yukamina on that one. I'm really hoping that the face ends up looking like the character illustration Eiji has - I want him to look masculine, but like an anime character and actually fit in with DDs and the other Smart Doll girls. Regardless, the character he's based on is 17, so I really doubt he's going to look rugged or particularly adult like.

 

There's not much we can do but wait. On the 13th Danny responded to me on twitter with

"molds ready next week - test pulls week after so will show you something at the end of this month ^^"

- all we can do is wait and see how things turn out.

You can get tons of male heads kinda like that through resin dolls as far as I know.

 

I think what most people want is a fairly generic male anime sculpt. It would make a good starting point and tide people over until Volks or some other company does a line of male anime dolls.

 

I imagine there'll be plenty of people doing mods of the Danny Choo head to make all kinds of characters. Looking forward to seeing all the customs.

This is what I want too. Just a good base, then we can mod the head accordingly.

 

I agree that the key aspects here are the jawline, a longer nose and smaller eyes.

I want him to be recognizably male.

This thread gives me the tingles *shivers* I haven't yet seen a male sculpt that appeals to me, this is pretty close!

Sneak peek at Smart Doll 005 Eiji Seiun - the final soft vinyl mold is done!

Looks like no modifications to Mirai Frame are needed - although we may need to add some internal parts. 2 extra jeton joints are used which make Eiji taller than Mirai and Kizuna.

Indeed I love the stomach a lot. I am glad I swooped the body's I am getting since I think this would be to "buff" for the first boy I am making XD

Wow actually that looks great not too skinny but not too bulky, the proportion looks alright but I hope the hands was not too skinny and its seems like danny really aiming free! Boys body and it was executed really well, now will wait for the head sculpt..

Hmmm this seems like the macho, not the hoso macho, which kinda makes me sad cause i dont think he's buff enough for the boys i wanna make....then again i might change my mind after i see him next to a DD

Ohhh... I like it! I hope I like the head toooo ;_; In my opinion Mirai's sculpt doesn't have enough dimension to it (she looks great, but I'm not sure I can own her), so I'm a lil worried. Given the Smart doll boy can wear girls clothes, maybe DD girl heads will fit too?

yeah I think a DD should fit on the body I would think. maybe at most a edit to the neck like the 65cm obitsu.

I have that same worry. I find Mirai very one-dimensional. She's cute but lacking in pretty much all personality. But design wise I've always found her the most "generic" of the bunch. I hope Eiji doesn't suffer from her lack-of-charisma and charms me.

 

Now only to wait some more. I guess for now I'll just look at that nice body.

 

It keeps on making me think of like a SD17 x Figma. hahaha

Yay!!! I'm so happy that's the Hoso-Macho body!! But now i have to wait for the Macho body to come out *pouts*
