Mirai SmartDoll Info thread (UPDATED)

Just got an email from Danny. He added the optional hands, grey beanie and the 'turtleneck and hijab' set to the store.

 

The optional hands are 9,000 JPY for 4 pair of hands (thumbs up/down, peace hands, fist hands and pointy finger hands). At this moment, he says that he can't sell them separately.

 

The grey beanie is 1,900 JPY. It's the same beanie as Mirai's brown one.

 

The 'hijab + turtleneck' set is 8,000 JPY. You get a choice between the 'red hijab and beige turtleneck' or the 'brown hijab and brown turtleneck'.

 

I can't afford it right now but I'm definitely getting the optional hands in future.

I got that email this morning too and went ahead and ordered the gray hoodie and a short Mirai wig. I love her long default wig but I fear it getting into tangles or knots so the shorter one will be what she wears most of the time once it arrives.

 

I'm excited about the hands too, especially those thumbs up/down ones!

Okay, so I just got Mirai. I got the optional hands, which had a little surprise... What in the WORLD are these weird mechanical hands? She can't wear them, so I have no idea what they're for ov what they mean! Haha. I have had people tell me to do some funny things with them though (like putting them on a headband).

These mechanical hands are the hands that come with an internal frame when it's standalone. Danny wrote on twitter: "Be very careful if you want to use the robo hands", so I guess they can be used as normal hands, but I can't be sure as I haven't seen them in real.

Oh! I guess gtt makes sense for people who display or own just the frame. Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.

To people who took the frames out of their dolls or only own the frame.

 

How bendable are the knees after you take the outer shell off? Is it still 90° or a little more?

 

 

(edit) Weird, I checked the picture thread and it seems like she has very visible slits under the knees, so the outer shell most likely isn't limiting poseability. I remembered Danny saying he purposefully made the legs not bend much because he hates the slits, but I guess I was wrong

While the frame is made of sturdy POM and the outer shell of soft vinyl, Mirai is still a delicate girl so please be gentle with her and don't put excessive force on any part of her body. Remember that her legs bend at the knees at only 90°. I designed the knees this way because I didn't want her knee joints to split open just to fold her legs 180°.

Though I guess it's still possible that the front part of the outside is limiting movements.

 

Either way I'm still interested in knowing.

Judging from the pictures it seems like you're right.

I guess it's not something you can easily mod then.

This is the one doll that could sway me away from a DD, although I'm still leaning more toward the MDD. A friend has Mirai and she is awesome!

I'm kinda nervous about staining because a smart doll girl will be my first vinyl doll and I just want to do things right. Should I take the clothing off while not photographing them/ taking them out and about? o.o

Nope, I haven't seen any staining from the default jeans and shirt at all on my Mirai. I left her in her default setup for 3 weeks with no marks anywhere on her. So don't worry about having to take them off of her while she's on display, she'll be just fine!

May I ask a little further about the "shop system"?

As I see it you have to "sign up" for purchasing Mirai/Kizuna to gain access to the shop. I am interested in seeing what items and extras that are available for purchase. Do I have to basically commit to buy a doll to see what extras there are? Or how does it work?

No, you don't. I have done it before without issue. I wanted to make a note of how much everything would cost but didn't know all the extras so I applied just to see. I got in, and even if I had wanted a doll they were already sold out. XD Either way, I was not in trouble for doing such.

BTW, I bought these jeans from TTYA, which I believe are made in the same factory as the Smart Doll jeans. As I said in that post I washed them a few times before using them, but at times I've had them on for months and there has been no trace of staining.

Sorry to hear your girl got some stains from the jeans. Mine seriously has not gotten any stains tho so maybe the jeans you got hadn't gotten all the extra dye out yet? Whatever the reason, hopefully it doesn't keep happening.
